This is one of the active channels that traverses Floridablanca, Pampanga.

Department of Public Works and Highways completes a 124-linear meter revetment wall in barangay Valdez in Floridablanca, Pampanga. (DPWH)

Pampanga 2nd District Engineer Gregorio Audea Jr. said the 124-linear meter revetment wall in the barangay Valdez section of the river was worth P19.5 million and funded in the 2022 national budget.

“This is in addition to the existing 85.77-lineal meter slope protection in the area built in 2021. Another segment adjoining these structures is currently under construction and has an approximate length of 346-lineal meter and is expected to be completed by the 4th quarter of this year,” the official added.

Since 2020, DPWH has been implementing projects that will mitigate flooding along Floridablanca’s major river systems by building flood control structures deemed important to residents.

“Barangay Valdez has experienced severe flooding several times and I remember in 2013 at the height of typhoon Maring, it was one of the barangays in Floridablanca that was severely flooded after the Porac River overflowed,” Audea recalled. (PIA 3)
