DSWD to expand cash aid for PUV drivers outside NCR after Holy Week

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to expand its cash assistance program to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers outside Metro Manila after Holy Week, aiming to ease the impact of rising fuel prices on their livelihood.

Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said preparations are underway for the next phase while payouts continue in the National Capital Region. The agency targets to begin distribution immediately after Holy Week, once the total number of beneficiaries nationwide is finalized.

The DSWD earlier distributed PHP5,000 aid to tricycle drivers and will continue payouts this week for other sectors. Around 27,635 transport network vehicle service drivers are set to receive assistance on March 24, followed by over 21,700 public utility jeepney drivers on March 25. Delivery riders and motorcycle taxi drivers will receive aid later in the week.

The program supports the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to assist drivers affected by fuel price increases.

To ensure an orderly rollout, the DSWD is implementing strict verification measures, requiring beneficiaries to appear in person and present valid identification.

The agency also advised drivers to coordinate with their local government units and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to confirm their inclusion in the official list and to follow scheduled payout dates.
