Department of Industry (DTI) Tarlac Provincial Office concluded the activities-packed Consumer Welfare Month celebration last October 26 with a culminating program which, like the activities, revolved on the theme “Sustainable Consumerism in the Digital Age.”




During the virtual program, OIC-Provincial Director Florencia Balilo shared that October of every year is declared as Consumer Welfare Month through Proclamation No. 1098 of 1997. The activities are set for the strengthening the agency’s mandate on consumer advocacy in partnership with the academe sector, LGUs, consumer organization and media.
On October 7, 2022, the Virtual Quiz Bee was held with 15 participating schools. Questions were drawn from the following topics: Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, RA 7394, Price Act, Sustainable Development Goals and different Fair-Trade Laws.
Scheduled next was the online poster-making contest conducted last October 12, 2022. The creative artworks of the 17 contestants revolved around this year’s CWM theme. These were individually rated by the board of judges composed of Ms. Maria Concordia L. Soriano, Mr. Judeo Herrera, Mr. Christian Aaron Bondoc and Mr. Ryan Lactaotao.
On October 14, 2022, TIDS Wessa Dizon conducted a briefing with TCCI members on Christmas Lights-Related Policies and Regulations in preparation for the saturation drive on Christmas lights.
Part of the CWM activity was the Virtual Spoken Poetry Competition. This was held on October 19, 2022 and joined by 13 school contestants. The inspiring pieces delivered by the students were judged by the following respectively: Mr. Casiano Supan, Mr. Judeo Herrera and Mr. Rosauro Perez.
To add more presence in social media, a vlog entry from the Tarlac Consumers Council Inc. and Baras-Baras High school were included as part of the Regional CWM Competition.
During the Culminating Activity, the participants awaited for the announcement of winners of the Poster-making and Spoken Poetry contests. The winners, including those of the Quiz Bee were as follows:
The 1st place winner of the Quiz bee, Girlie Tumang of Lawy National High School, represented Tarlac during the Regional Quiz Bee held on October 21, 2022 at the DTI III Regional Office in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga. With great pride, she was able to make it to the 3rd place.
The 1st place winners of the Poster-making and Spoken Poetry Contests shall represent Tarlac during the Regional Competition. Winners shall be announced during the Regional Culminating Activity on November 10, 2022 in Pampanga.
