FAB MAIN ZONE NOW 100% POWERED BY RENEWABLE ENERGY

BALANGA CITY — The main zone of the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) in Mariveles is now fully powered by renewable energy, marking a major step toward sustainable industrial development.

A diversified clean energy portfolio — combining solar and geothermal sources — now supplies the entire Freeport. This includes a newly completed 6-megawatt rooftop solar facility installed across 14 factory buildings, providing direct daytime power to locators while minimizing grid dependence and transmission losses.

To meet higher energy demands, FAB also draws additional supply from the 20-megawatt Mariveles Solar Plant operated by Citicore Solar Bataan Inc. in Barangay Alas-Asin. For reliable baseload power, the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) sources electricity from the Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant in Leyte, which generates 600 megawatts to ensure steady operations despite solar variability.

AFAB Administrator and CEO Mohammed Hussein Pangandaman announced the milestone during an investment forum, underscoring that the shift demonstrates how economic zones can drive growth through sustainability.

“This combination of resources allows AFAB to sustain industrial activity inside the Freeport while contributing to the country’s broader shift toward clean energy,” Pangandaman said.

With its main zone now fully supplied by renewables, the FAB strengthens its reputation as a competitive, future-ready investment hub leading the transition toward clean and sustainable energy.
