In time for Holy Week 2026, Mabalacat-based artist Dodjie Arellano Aguinaldo offers a moving collection of artworks rooted in devotion, tradition, and quiet reflection.
In a recent Facebook post, Aguinaldo shared that his annual practice of creating religious pieces comes not from obligation, but from a deeply personal calling. “Whether a simple painting of Christ upon the cross or a work shaped from whatever humble materials I can gather, I follow the rhythm of our culture,” he said.

Among his featured works is “Kalbaryo ng Krus,” a powerful interpretation of Christ’s crucifixion. The piece depicts a mountain of skulls symbolizing Golgotha, with three crosses standing in solemn silence above and a cave below representing Christ’s burial—an image where suffering and hope converge.

Using recycled and humble materials, Aguinaldo transforms everyday objects into meaningful expressions of faith, breathing new life into long-held traditions.
“Through these works, I do not merely create—I bear witness,” he said. “I share, I remember, and I pass on a culture of faith that must not fade with time.”
