Fans clamor for Ely to fulfill Eraserheads reunion promise

After Vice-President Leni Robredo announced her presidential bid today, fans are now calling on Ely Buendia to fulfill his promise of an Eraserheads reunion.

Social media users took to Twitter and other social media platforms to express their happiness over Robredo’s announcement of her presidential bid.

But more than this, they want Ely to fulfill his promise in a tweet he wrote last September 2021.

Tweets asking for the Eraserheads reunion have already reached 5,706 as of this writing.

The issue came to a fore when during a Q&A session on his Twitter account last September 28 to promote his upcoming virtual concert “Superproxies”, Ely tweeted: “For one hour, ask me anything you want. #SUPERPROXIES.”

Ely was asked by a tweeter with user name Ben La Dean: “Hi Sir Ely, may pag-asa pa po kaya magkakaroon ng Eheads reunion?”

To which Ely answered: “Pag tumakbo si Leni”.

The fans got excited!

Here are some tweets:

“Eheads, Sound check!” tweet by Attorney Ted Te.

“Wearing pink while singing With a Smile.” Tweeter with user name Spero Spera.

“Hello Eraserheads! Reunion na! The masses are waiting!,” tweeted by Ligaya

However, after his tweet that trended like crazy, Ely tweeted again and posted: “DISCLAIMER: My political opinions are my own and I do not represent the views of Eraserheads’ members.”

The Eraserheads are a popular ’90s Filipino rock band that were widely regarded as a legendary musical icon, most successful, most influential, critically-acclaimed and significant band in the country.

The members are Ely Buendia as lead vocalist, guitarist and principal song writer; bassist Buddy Zabala; drummer Raimund Marasigan; and, lead guitarist Marcus Adoro.

They released several singles, albums and EPs that reached number one and gained commercial success with their album “Cutterpillow” which achieved platinum status several times.

Eraserheads won the Viewer’s Choice Award in New York, the only Filipino artist to receive the award  before the birth of the MTV Asia Awards.

During their music career as a band, they won the “Album of the Year” award eight times and a lot more.

In 2004, they received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

But Ely left the band in March 2002. He did not say why.

Will Ely fulfill his promise to reunite the Eraserheads in a concert now that Vice-President Leni Robredo is running for the presidency?

Who knows.
