Fifteen Fernandina mother cooks from five villages showcased their skills during a cook-off hosted by the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (CAVO) on August 23, 2022 at the City Nursery in Barangay Lara, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
Guided by advocacies on backyard farming, and health and wellness, the challenge highlighted the use of harvested leafy green vegetables from the nursery and backyard farms as the dishes’ main ingredients, according to City Agriculturist and challenge judge Dr. Cristina Sangumay.
The dishes included “oatmeal patties with malunggay,” “talilong tempura,” “ginisang dahon ng sayote,” “ensaladang talbos ng kamote,” “petchay with tinapa,” among others.
Adjudged winners of the challenge are the following:
- First Place – Bulaon
- Second Place – Telabastagan
- Third Place – San Agustin
- Consolation Prize recipients – Alasas and Baliti
Each barangay entry consisted of three members and were judged based on their respective dishes’ taste, originality, ease of preparation, and affordability. Sanitation in cooking was also part of the criteria.
Joining Sangumay in judging were City Agriculture and Veterinary Focal Person Jay-Ar Hipolito and City Tourism Focal Person Joebee Henson.
