GATCHALIAN URGES LGUS TO SUSPEND CLASSES IF FLU-LIKE CASES INCREASE

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian called on local government units (LGUs) to consider the proactive suspension of face-to-face classes should influenza-like illnesses continue to rise, emphasizing the need to prioritize student safety.

He clarified, however, that the public should remain calm and follow the guidance of the Department of Health (DOH), noting that flu cases are common during this season.

Gatchalian also urged LGUs to coordinate closely with the DOH and schools to implement preventive measures, including proper hygiene and sanitation, to minimize the spread of infection.

“It is important to ensure that students can return to school safely,” the senator stressed.
