The rom-com-drama “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” is a feel-good K-Drama series that will make you laugh so hard and fall in love as the series unfolds and you get to know the characters.
Yoon Hye-Jin (Shin Min-a), is a Seoul-based dentist who moves to the village after she quit her job in the big city and opens up her dental clinic in a close-knit seaside village. She is a very straight-forward person and has a hard time fitting in with the locals. She loves to buy branded clothes and shoes.
Hong Du-Sik (Kim Seon-Ho) is a jack-of-all trades, handsome and smart guy who is always ready to help. He knows how to get along with the locals and knows everyone in the village. He graduated from a prestigious university and has a lot of certificates from being a barista, food delivery guy, carpenter, singer, dancer, and real property agent, among others.
Hye-Jin and Hong Du-Sik are exact opposites but by some unusual twist-of-fate, are bound to know each other and fall in love.
Shin Min-a, 27, is a South Korean model and actress. She is best known for starring as “Mi Ho” in “My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox” (2010); Oh My Venus (2015); and, Tomorrow with You (2017).
She won the Excellence Award for an Actress in Miniseries for “Oh My Venus” in 2015; Outstanding Korean Actress in the 11th Seoul International Drama Awards in 2016; and, was for nominated Best Leading Actress in the 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards 2021.
Kim Seon-Ho, 35, is a South Korean actor. He began his career in the stage and appeared in numerous plays before making his screen debut in 2017. He rose to fame with the “Start-Up” in 2020 as the Good Manager.
Awards he has won include Best New Actor at the MBC Drama Awards and Excellence Award, Actor in “Two Cops”. He also won the Rookie Award-Show/Variety Category in 2020 and the Popularity Award-Entertainer in 2021.
On October 3, viewership ratings for the rom-com-drama turned double digits. According to Nielsen Korea, the latest episode of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” scored an average nationwide rating of 10.7 percent, marking a significant increase from its previous episode.
“Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” also broke its own viewership record among the key demographic of viewers aged 20-49 with whom it scored a nationwide average of 6.3 percent and remained in first place in its time slot.
Watching the series will make you laugh, cry, thrilled and romantically-elated. If it has been a long time since you’ve experienced that “kilig” feeling, you have to watch this series.
But just like every love story, there is always conflict. In the next episode, will Hye-Jin and Du-Sik break up as Hye-Jin digs up Du-Sik’s past?
