Acting Angeles City Mayor Ma. Vicenta “Vicky” Vega-Cabigting on March 27 met with representatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) to discuss the upcoming waterway clean-up drive along Abacan River.
City Engineer Donato Dizon, also concurrent officer-in-charge of the Environmental Management System and City Environment and Natural Resources Office, was with Acting Mayor Vega-Cabigting during the short meeting.
Meanwhile, representing the DENR-EMB during the meeting are EMS Bureau 3 Technical Support Officer Al Mercado, EMS II Reinaldo Garcia II, and DENR – EMS Bureau 3 Information Officer II Jerwinson Infanta.
The city government, together with the DENR-EMB, will conduct a waterway clean-up on March 30, 2023 along the two sides of the Abacan River via plogging, or the process of jogging while picking-up trash along the way.
In addition, Vega-Cabigting encourages the public to join the waterway clean-up as it aims for volunteerism of individuals in environmental protection.
Participants in the upcoming clean-up drive are out-of-school youth from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), barangay officials from Barangays Sta. Teresita, Amsic, Pulung Maragul, and Pandan.
Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness throughout the city is one of the cornerstone programs of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr.’s administration.
