Mabalacat City College, Huawei inaugurate first ‘Smart Hybrid Classrooms’ in the PH

Gearing towards innovation and technological advancement in education, the Mabalacat City College (MCC), in partnership with Huawei Philippines ICT, inaugurated four (4) Smart Hybrid Classrooms today, August 17.

The ceremonial ribbon was cut by MCC president Michelle Aguilar-Ong, Commission on Higher Education – Unified Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education Act (UniFAST) Executive Director Atty. Ryan L. Estevez, Huawei Philippines ICT Industry representative Lim Seow Boon and Regional Marketing Head Zain Zheng, Korean Language Professor Sunny Hann, AG Datacom Philippines Inc. Chief Operating Officer Reina Roxanne C. Mammie and City College of Angeles president Dr. Francisco Villanueva.

“This is an important part of our history as we are now looking into the future of education not only in the Philippines but also around the world,” stated Ong, who also expressed gratitude to UNIFAST, which funds the breakthroughs being implemented in MCC.

Huweai Philippines’ Lim Seow Boon explained that the smart classrooms, the first hybrid teaching space in the Philippines, aim to support the blended learning system. He stressed, “Huawei will be very focused on the education system, and we are really pleased that MCC is one of our partners. Thank you for your trust. I hope we can grow sama-sama.”

Echavez also congratulated the MCC for this milestone in tertiary education. “Mapapa-sana all na lang talaga ang ibang estudyante ng ibang local state colleges. Needless to say, MCC inspires others to improve.”

CHED Commissioner Dr. Jo Mark M. Libre sent his congratulatory message to MCC for re-shaping the educational landscape of the country through this innovation. Mammie, on the other hand, turned over the certificate of completion of the project to Ong.

The guests had the opportunity to check the project’s amenities, which included soundproof walls, six microphones, interactive screen and boards, cameras, and monitors. Another main feature is the content sharing where one can immediately share powerpoint presentations and videos as well as everything that is written on the board using QR codes.

The smart classrooms boast of ‘Highflex Learning’ which makes it possible for online and on-site students to learn together. The smart classroom allows students to answer through their tablets, even when at home.

Cameras installed also have human behavioral algorithm which will follow the teachers inside the classroom. This will make the interactions between on-site and online much better.

The smart classrooms inauguration ceremony is part of the MCC ASEAN Month 2022 celebration. The said smart classrooms will be open to students on August 22.
