Malacañang Press Corps denies bias in reporting on PBBM’s health

The Malacañang Press Corps (MPC) on Sunday rejected allegations that its members are being used or paid to conceal the true health condition of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr..

In a statement, the MPC stressed that reporting on the President’s health is a matter of public interest and national security, noting that its members have consistently raised questions during regular press briefings.

The group said past reports and briefing videos show how journalists actively questioned government officials regarding the President’s condition. It added that all information gathered is verified before being released to the public to ensure accuracy.

The MPC also condemned what it described as attempts to discredit journalists and mislead the public, emphasizing that responsible reporting is grounded in verification and accountability—unlike some unverified content circulating on social media.

The statement came amid the spread of online claims about the President’s health, which Malacañang has dismissed as false. The MPC reaffirmed its commitment to independent, fair, and factual reporting.

Malacañang has repeatedly denied rumors that Marcos is seriously ill, including claims that he has late-stage colon cancer. Officials clarified that the President was diagnosed with Diverticulitis in January.

The Presidential Communications Office earlier flagged what it described as a coordinated surge of disinformation on social media, including allegations that old or “throwback” photos of the President were being reused.

To counter the claims, the Palace has continued to release photos and live-streamed videos of Marcos’ official engagements, including his participation in the recent commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan in Bataan.

Meanwhile, authorities have also filed a cyberlibel complaint before the Department of Justice against administrators of a Facebook page accused of spreading false reports about an impending emergency lockdown.
