Manufacturers of basic necessities and prime commodities have pledged to keep prices stable for at least 30 days, with some committing to maintain current rates for up to 60 days, amid concerns over the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The assurance was made during a meeting convened by Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque on March 16, 2026, attended by 21 manufacturers representing key product categories, including canned goods, bread, bottled water, instant noodles, coffee, soaps, and candles.
Among the items expected to maintain current prices for the next 30 days are canned sardines, bread products, bottled water, toilet and laundry soaps, condiments, processed canned meat, and candles. Several brands of instant noodles, canned meat, and other food products have also committed to hold prices for up to 60 days, while some coffee and candle manufacturers pledged to maintain existing prices for an extended period.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) noted that the latest Suggested Retail Price Bulletin, released in February 2025, covers 197 stock-keeping units (SKUs), serving as a guide for fair pricing.
Roque emphasized the importance of balancing consumer protection with the challenges faced by manufacturers.
“We recognize the financial strain faced by consumers while also acknowledging the cost pressures confronting manufacturers. Our priority remains to ensure fair and reasonable pricing,” she said, expressing gratitude to industry partners for their cooperation.
The DTI reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with manufacturers to ensure a steady supply and stable prices of essential goods, safeguarding the welfare of Filipino consumers.
