Mayor Pogi exploring food options during a disaster

Angeles City mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr., is exploring options on meal-ready-to-eat (MREs) flameless rations for emergency food for evacuees during a disaster.

With Chief Adviser and Tactician IC Calaguas, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel and Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rudy Simeon, the mayor led a taste test of the product on Thursday, July 14.

Mayor Pogi said that the MREs will serve as food assistance in case of emergencies or natural calamities.
Mayor Lazatin wants the city government to put priority on disaster prevention and preparedness.

Meanwhile, Calaguas also sought the assistance of City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra and CHO Nutritionist Ma. Rosana Trinidad to ensure the nutritional value of the product.

Earlier, Mayor Lazatin ordered Calaguas and Manuel to conduct an on-site visit at the Mining Evacuation Center in preparation for the rainy season. The evacuation center features a clinic with readily available medicines, a prayer room, play area for kids, breastfeeding area, kitchen and mess hall.

Mayor Lazatin wants to make sure that the evacuation center is complete and can be used in times of disaster. This is in line with the disaster mitigation and preparedness plan of the city against natural calamities and emergencies.

The city also has other alternative evacuation sites: the covered courts at Capaya 2, Sta. Trinidad, Lourdes North West, Amsic and Anunas.

Also present were Gender and Development Officer Mina Cabiles and RHU VI Resident Doctor Cristine Joy Patio. (Angeles City Information Office)
