Not even the pandemic could stop the Angeles City Government from recognizing the dedication and hard work of students from public and private schools here.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. said the city government will continue the house-to-house awarding of outstanding students, despite the presence still of the pandemic.
Each awardee will receive the Carmelo G. Lazatin, Jr. Medal of Excellence, Certificate of Recognition, and Financial Assistance.
It is the third time that Mayor Lazatin has been implementing the project, which started during the time of Mayor Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin.
“Sa gitna po ng pandemya, lalo pong na-test ang sipag at dedikasyon ng mga kabataang Angeleño upang ituloy ang kanilang pag-aaral,” Lazatin said.
“Napakarami pong pagsubok, pero hindi po ito naging hadlang para sa kanila upang makapagaral ng maayos at mabuti. Ang city government naman po ay nandito palagi upang tugunan ang mga pangangailangan ng ating mga mag-aaral,” Lazatin added.
Irish Bonus-Llego, Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office Head, said the city government will send the endorsement letters to the city’s 45 private schools and 58 public schools for students who are qualified to receive the Medal of Excellence. The deadline of submission for the list of qualified students per school is on June 30, 2022.
The criteria to receive the Medal of Excellence is as follows: 40% for outstanding performance in Mathematics, Science, Computer/Information Technology, and English; 25% for Organization/Participation within the campus and outside the campus; 15% for history of leadership; 10% for campus contribution; 5% for the call of the student body; and 5% for faculty’s preference.
The candidates for the medal must be chosen from a sample of the top 10 percent graduating students of an institution both in elementary and high school levels. Only two recipients may be submitted by the school administration – one from the whole population of the graduating elementary batch and one from the finishing high school batch, Bonus-Llego explained.
