With a little over six months before Christmas Day, City of San Fernando Mayor Vilma Caluag has already initiated primary steps heading to one of the most-awaited holiday events in the city – the display of lights and lanterns.
Mayor Vilma met with renowned Fernandino lantern makers Rolando Quiambao and Arvin Quiwa, who presented designs of lights and lanterns to be installed in key areas of the city including Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA), City Hall, Heroes Hall, and portions of McArthur Highway.
Concepts of designs included the showcase of key symbols of San Fernando and the Fernandinos.
Caluag said she targeting to launch the displays on September first, relative to the Filipino Christmas tradition of commencing the season onset of “ber” months.
The City Mayor has also called on restoring other traditions being practiced by Fernandinos during the Christmas season like the ‘Lubenas’, an activity that the the City Government hosts annually to showcase Fernandino craftsmanship, artistry, and faith through lantern making.
