The Miss Universe-Philippines 2021 preliminaries started on September 23 with a seven-minute show featuring the candidates in their elaborate national costumes. The event was shot at the new Clark International Airport.
The costumes they wore were from an ancient era of the Manila Carnival Queens, the first Filipina beauty queens from the early American colonial period in 1908. The organizers of Miss Universe-Philippines 2021 wanted to bring back black and white and how it would look like today.
Our very own Angeleña Carnival Queen Mirjan Hipolito is one of the favorites. She wore the masterpiece of premier Kapampangan designer Frederick Policarpio, with meticulously adorned beadwork and accessories by renowned Kapampangan doll couturier, Cholo Ayuyao.
The National Costumes showcased our world-class Filipino designers’ artistry through elaborate and intricate designs that were interpreted in traditional, modern and colorful patterns, together with festive, embellished and feathered headdresses.
The video grouped the candidates according to geography: Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and the National Capital Region and interpret their costumes through their provinces’ history and heritage.
The 28 contestants will showcase their Filipiniana beauty, history and heritage.
Miss Universe-Philippines Coronation will be on September 25,2021.
