New Angeles City P80-M state-of-the-art slaughterhouse starts operations

Angeles City’s fully automated, state-of-the-art slaughterhouse in Barangay Sta. Trinidad started its operations last August 26. This facility pushes the city’s pursuit of preparing the safest meat for the consuming public.

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr said it is the aim of the city government to provide a more humane treatment and handling of livestock and poultry.

“We will remain vigilant in ensuring that all meat produced in the market is clean and safe to eat for Angeleños,” said Lazatin, who visited the slaughterhouse today with Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, Sanitation Division Head Alvin Dingal, Pampang Public Market Consultant Jessie Lugtu, City Environment and Natural Resources Officer-in-Charge Archimedes Lazatin, Business Permit and Licensing Division Chief Evangeline Malonzo, and Edwin Sicat of City Meat Inspection Division.

The slaughterhouse started processing 20,000 broilers using a fully automated system.

“Wala pong lugar sa siyudad ang botcha or double-dead meat,” the mayor said.

IC Calaguas, Mayor Lazatin’s Chief Adviser, explained that the new slaughterhouse has been upgraded from Single A to Double A category, which means it is accredited by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).

Aside from the automated Poultry Dressing Plant, the new slaughterhouse is friendlier to the environment with a waste water treatment facility, ice plant and cold storage, Calaguas said.

Lito Corpuz, General Manager of Angeles City Slaughterhouse, said that “since automated na yung proseso, mababawasan yung paggamit ng kamay at pag-transfer ng bacteria. Sisiguraduhin din nating may maayos na paglalagyan yung mga manok, para hindi sila nakakalat sa sahig.”

The fully mechanized slaughterhouse will be able to process 4,000 to 5,000 chickens per hour; 700 to 1,000 hogs per 12-hour operation; and 100 to 200 cattle and carabaos per 12-hour operation.

The newly renovated slaughterhouse was made possible through a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) partnership with Cabanatuan EACA Agro-ventures, Inc., which infused P80 million for the development of the facility. (Angeles City Information Office)
