About 500 farmers can benefit from the Onion Cold Storage that will be built in Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija.
This was announced by Cuyapo Municipal Agriculturist Orlando Ramos during the groundbreaking ceremony of the 20,000 bags capacity onion cold storage facility granted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) to the Calancuasan Sur Farmers.
He said that Cuyapo covers about 100 hectares of onion plantations, so the facility to be built will definitely help a lot to ensure that the harvested crops of the country farmers can be stored.
According to DA Bureau of Plant Industry Assistant Director Herminigilda Gabertan, the post-harvest facilities provided by the government aim to increase the yield and income of farmers.
It is also a method to make farmers aware of their important role in the society in food production from which many households benefit.
The DA’s allocated funds will reach 38 to 40 million pesos for the cold storage to be built under the High Value Crops Development Program, which the local government also matched with a fund of 2.6 million pesos.
According to Mayor Florida Esteban, the local government has no other desire but to have prosperity in the lives of every citizen of Cuyapenyo, especially the farmers.
The mayor also extended his gratitude to all those who help and the town has been grateful for the seeds, fertilizer, irrigation, farm equipment, technical assistance, and necessary training for the farmers.
The local government ensured that the aid and programs are properly distributed and surely reach the farmers. (PIA 3)
