Former Executive Secretary and television executive Oscar Orbos has been appointed as the acting General Manager of People’s Television Network (PTV), the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed Monday evening.
PCO Acting Secretary Jay Ruiz stated that Orbos agreed to take on the role in an acting capacity, while legal preparations for his appointment are being finalized.
“He agreed to be the officer-in-charge for now. We’re just preparing the necessary documents and reviewing the legal aspects,” Ruiz said.
Orbos, who has served as PTV Board Chairman since October 2024, will replace Antonio “Toby” Nebrida Jr., who was appointed in June 2024. The leadership change follows reported complaints from PTV personnel regarding Nebrida’s management.
Best known for hosting the debate program “Debate with Mare at Pare” on GMA 7 in the late 1990s, Orbos also held key government positions under the late President Corazon Aquino, serving as Transportation and Communications Secretary and later as Executive Secretary.
Ruiz noted that Orbos sees his role as temporary, given his preference to remain PTV chairman due to his age.
