PDRRMO holds “Summit for Youth” on disaster risk reduction and management

In a bid to promote youth engagement and involvement in Disaster Management among young Kapampangans, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) held a “DRRM Youth Summit” at Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) on Monday.

The said summit was attended by hundreds of Grade 11 and 12 students of the said university as part of the celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM).

Angelina Blanco, PDRRM officer said Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda initiated the said activity to continuously educate the youth regarding disaster preparedness.

She said, Governor Pineda believes that the youth can become frontliners in the communities in times of calamity and disaster.

“Magiging katuwang ng national at local government ang mga kabataan sa pag-iimplement ng mga DRRM projects and programs sa mga communities. Sila lang ang pwedeng makapag-influence sa kanilang mga parents at sa kanilang mga friends sa lakas nga ng leadership ng mga bata ngayon. Sana yung mga natutunan nila through our activities ay madala nila sa kanilang mga barangays at pamilya,” said Blanco.

As part of the summit, a DRRM quiz bee was conducted which was participated in by the senior high school students.

Meanwhile, resource speakers underscored the importance of disaster preparedness that could be applied in the daily lives of the students and their families, especially in times of disasters.

“Salamat po at hinayaan niyo kami na magparticipate sa mga ganitong activities, sana po mas marami pa pong activities na ganito para maging mulat po ang mga students sa disaster preparedness,” said Enjay Paule, one of the winners of the quiz bee.
