The Marcos administration. Through the Department of Energy (DOE) is advancing the development of local energy resources, highlighted by the successful drilling and testing of the Camago-3 well—resulting in a 100% Filipino gas discovery that is expected to strengthen the country’s energy security.
Amid volatile global oil prices driven by tensions in the Middle East, the additional supply of locally sourced natural gas is seen to reduce the Philippines’ reliance on imported fuel.
Part of the Malampaya Phase 4 campaign, the Camago-3 well is projected to deliver up to 60 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, contributing to a more stable and affordable power supply.
“This is a historic achievement that showcases Filipino expertise and reinforces the country’s energy security,” said DOE Secretary Sharon S. Garin. “With ongoing developments in the Middle East, boosting our own gas supply ensures a more reliable, cost-efficient, and resilient energy source amid global market fluctuations.”
The DOE continues to push for the development of indigenous energy resources to secure a stable electricity supply for Filipino households in the years ahead.
