ANGELES CITY —- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has imposed a price freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities in Central Luzon, particularly Candaba and Macabebe in Pampanga; Concepcion, Tarlac, Dingalan in Aurora; San Miguel in Bulacan; and, the entire province of Nueva Ecija due to the onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding.
This was revealed during the online DTI-R3 Kapihan Session with Media on October 5.
DTI Region 3 Consumer Protection Division Chief Jerry Maglalang said they have been conducting weekly price monitoring activities to check the compliance of establishments with the SRP of goods.
As of September 30, DTI has monitored 695 and were found to be compliant. The DTI also reported a stable supply of goods. The monitoring of sugar showed that as of September 30, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales reported no supply shortage while higher prices were monitored in Aurora due to the high acquisition cost of transportation.
The SRP for Noche Buena items, meanwhile, will be released within October or on November 2022.
As part of its mandate to promote consumer protection and welfare, the DTI issues SRPs depending on the season and changes in the current situation.
As this developed, the DTI revealed it will be staging the 24th Likha ng Central Luzon Trade Fair on October 26-30, 2022. It will be held at the SM Megamall Trade Hall B in Mandaluyong City and will feature the products of 143 MSMEs from the seven provinces of Central Luzon.
