PRO3 seizes ₱1.38-M illegal cigarettes in Nueva Ecija, Pampanga

Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) sustained its intensified anti-illicit trade operations, seizing more than ₱1.38 million worth of illegal cigarettes in separate operations conducted on April 6–7 in Nueva Ecija and Pampanga.

In Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija, joint operatives intercepted a white Nissan Urvan at around 11:30 p.m. on April 6 during a checkpoint operation, leading to the recovery of 85 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at ₱1.02 million. Two suspects—a 46-year-old driver and a 36-year-old helper—were arrested after failing to present proper documentation.

In a separate operation, personnel of the Pampanga Police Intelligence Unit, in coordination with the Arayat Municipal Police Station, conducted a buy-bust operation in Arayat, Pampanga at around 12:20 p.m. on April 7. A 43-year-old male suspect was arrested for violating the National Internal Revenue Code, while authorities seized 19 boxes of illegal cigarettes worth ₱360,000 and a vehicle. Another suspect remains at large.

Authorities noted that all confiscated items lacked the required tax stamps from the Bureau of Internal Revenue. Appropriate charges are being prepared for filing.

Jess B. Mendez, regional director of PRO3, said the operations aim to protect the economy, ensure fair business practices, and safeguard government revenues. He also directed all units to intensify checkpoint operations, strengthen intelligence coordination, and closely monitor key transport routes.

The campaign forms part of the broader enforcement drive of the Philippine National Police under the leadership of PNP Chief Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., in coordination with the whole-of-government approach of Interior Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla.

PRO3 reaffirmed its commitment to sustain aggressive operations against illegal trade and uphold economic security across Central Luzon.
