The House of Representatives approved on second reading on February 9 proposed House Bill 6715, “An Act Providing for the Development of Sustainable Cities and Communities in the Country”, filed by Tarlac 2nd District Representative Christian Tell Yap.
“Ngayon araw ay ihinain po natin sa plenaryo ng Kongreso ang House Bill 6715. Hangad po natin ang pag-ulad ng mga siyudad at komunidad sa buong bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagtatayo ng mura at ligtas na housing, maayos na transportasyon at paglawak ng ating mga pampublikong green spaces,” Yap said.
The proposed bill aims to build cities and communities that can survive and prosper through urban planning that will create safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient cities with green public spaces.
House Bill 6715 seeks to institutionalize a national policy that will mandate private and public stakeholders to establish sustainable cities and communities.
The measure is a necessary step to foster the sustainable development of cities and urban areas to be adaptive, that evolve with the environment and the economy and provide for the people’s needs, guided by the principles of participatory governance, inclusivity, mobility, connectivity, safety, cultural diversity, resilience and climate change adaptability.
