PSA eyes 12.8M PhilSys registrants in Central Luzon

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is targeting to register about 12.8 million Central Luzon residents in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) by the third quarter of 2022.

PSA Regional Spokesperson John Rey Duay IV shared that about 8,096,264 individuals are already registered, which is 72 percent of the regional target.

“Our PhilSys identification (ID) card is a valid proof of identity as a resident of the Philippines. This is also a way of helping the government to efficiently deliver its services to the people,” he emphasized.

The agency is confident that it will be able to deliver about 30 million physical ID cards, and about 20 million digital cards nationwide before the year ends.

With this, Duay called on the residents to register to PhilSys in the nearest registration centers in their localities.

“Our registration centers are open but they could register in the Step 1 online through the link https://register.philsys.gov.ph/ and fill out the forms requiring demographic information,” he detailed.

Registrants may also do walk-ins, and register until Step 2 or the verification of demographic information, iris scan, fingerprint, and ID photo.

However, Duay asked the registrants for more patience amid the delay on the Step 3 which is the delivery of the PhilSys ID cards as these are still undergoing quality and duplication checking.

“Our target is for our registrants to receive their ID cards in a maximum period of three months. There are delays as we are doing verification processes before printing the cards. Also, we prioritize the printing of the ID cards of those belonging to low-income families,” he explained.

Registrants may track the status of their ID cards at tracking.philpost.gov.ph.

Meanwhile, Duay shared that they have been receiving complaints about distorted photos in the PhilSys ID cards.

“We advise them to visit the registration centers and request for replacement. Our registration teams will evaluate the cards, and change them. We will prioritize those for replacement,” he suggested.

For the validity of the cards PSA has already released an advisory that the PhilSys ID cards should be accepted as official and sufficient proof of identity without the need to present any other identification documents. (PIA 3)
