SBMA to celebrate National Tourism Week 2022 with f2f activities

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) will be celebrating the National Tourism Week 2022 with face-to-face activities after two years of restrictions on gatherings due to the pandemic. 

SBMA Chairman and Administrator Rolen C. Paulino said that National Tourism Week 2022 is one of the most anticipated events in this premiere Freeport following the issuance of Executive Order No. 3 by President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. because more tourists can now flock Subic Bay not only for its fresh air and clean environment, but for the fun and exciting events that they can enjoy. 

Tourism Manager Jem Camba said that the SBMA’s celebration of National Tourism Week 2022 will kick off on September 26 with a motorcade starting from the Harbor Point Ayala Mall, to Argonaut highway, to Waterfront road, to Moonbay Marina, and to Olongapo City via Rizal gate, and back to Harbor Point via Kalaklan gate.  

A job fair not just of tourism-related businesses, but other companies here, as well, will be opened for job-seekers at Harbor Point after the motorcade.  

On the 27th of September, the SBMA will be holding an outreach program to give back to the community who has supported their endeavours in propelling Subic Freeport  into the best tourism destination in Central Luzon. 

The Tourism Quiz Challenge 2022 will also be held on the 28th, where questions and other trivia about the tourism industry here will be asked to the participants.  

“The Tourism Quiz Challenge is on its 6th year and is a pocket event of National Tourism Week 2022.  The activity aims to motivate and encourage tourism students to develop their interests in careers, recreation, leisure, hotel and restaurants, and promote an awareness of our tourism products in the Philippines through a question and answer game challenge,” Camba said. 

The agency will also hold a bartending and flairtending competition on the 29th, along with Subic Bay’s Got Talent on the 30th. Both events will be held at the Harbor Point Ayala Mall and is open to all stakeholders of the Subic Bay Freeport. 

Dubbed as “Bartending with Flairtending Competition: Battle of the Bottles 2022,” the competition is open to all amateur bartenders who have not won any regional or national competition, and students taking up courses in related fields of Hotel and Restaurant Management, Tourism, and Food Technology. 

Camba said that the goal of this competition is to recognize and appreciate the skills, abilities, and uniqueness of each local flair bartender throughout his/ her performance. It also aims to provide a platform where competitors can get together, share ideas, and build unity in the local bartending industry and to promote bartending as a profession. 

Meanwhile, Paulino said that with the various activities that will be held here is expected to bring an influx of tourists, especially now that tourists can go around the open areas of Subic Freeport without a facemask.  

“With the fresh air and clean environment, tourists would certainly love to go around the Freeport without a facemask,” he said, but urged everyone to still follow protocols especially when going inside establishments and crowded areas here.  

“We want our tourists to enjoy their stay here, but we also want them to go home safe to their loved ones without the fear of contracting Covid-19,” he reminded. 

Subic Bay Freeport was recently hailed by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as the number one tourist destination in Central Luzon for 2021, besting areas such as Clark Freeport, and Pampanga. 

Paulino further added that 7,374,332 visitors and 737,486 tourists came to the Freeport last year, adding that the area also placed fifth in the most visited areas in the country.
