The National Academy of Sports (NAS) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Department of Education (DepEd) Region 3 for the deployment of specialized teachers who will cater to the students of NAS in its first year of operations.
Under the MOU, specialized teachers for Mathematics, Science, English, Filipino, Araling Panlipunan, Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao, Technology and Livelihood Education, and Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health will be selected from nearby Schools Division Offices.
“They will undergo training and eventual deployment in the NAS System for a period of one school year only,” DepEd Regional Director May Eclar said.
“NAS, on the other hand, shall provide opportunities for the teachers’ learning and development while they are on detail in the Academy,” NAS Executive Director Josephine Joy Reyes disclosed.
The academy was created thru Republic Act No. 11470 as an attached institution of DepEd in close coordination with Philippine Sports Commission.
It aims to develop more future world-class Filipino athletes and increase youth interest in sports.
NAS envisions itself at the forefront of global sports development and education, producing well-rounded student-athletes equipped with the ability and passion to become sources of national pride.
The school’s facilities are currently being built at the sports complex of New Clark City in Tarlac.
NAS provides full scholarship upon entry at Grade 7 or in Junior High School up to Grade 12.
Scholars are also given reasonable monthly stipend, free board and lodging, as well as school and training uniform. (PIA 3)
