In an effort to address teenage pregnancies in Mabalacat City, the City Government, through the City Population, Gender and Development (POPGAD) Office, undertakes the Social Protection Program for Teenage Mothers and their Children (SPPTMC) and distributed the 4th quarterly conditional social pension on December 27, at Xevera Lot Covered Court, Brgy. Tabun.
A total of 100 young Mabalaquenian mothers received aid under the program.
Beneficiaries aged 10 to 17 years old will receive a monthly stipend provided they follow the conditions set such as – check up of the baby and mother at the health center, and the mother is back to school or undergoes alternative education, and counseling services.
The recipients should also have the option to be provided with various benefits such as food assistance, financial assistance, scholarship grants, nutrition and supplemental feeding, and have no repeat pregnancy in order to avail the said pension.
Apart from the quarterly financial aid, Child Protection interventions are also being provided for beneficiaries suspected as a case of child abuse.
Mayor Crisostomo Garbo, along with City Councilor Cherry Manalo and POPGAD officer Charlo Costales, graced the activity and led the distribution of cash aid to the pensioners.
Garbo also reiterated the importance of proper guidance to young moms as well as to their guardians to better protect them and their children from any cases of abuse or neglect. (MCN)
