Young star Francine Diaz: a rising Leading Lady
In the past four years, teen actress Francine Diaz has been making waves and has become one of the top young stars in showbiz.
Francine Diaz, who just turned 18 last January 27, is on the digital cover of Metro and modeled the creations of fashion designer Michael Leyva.
Francine’s very first appearance on national television came by way of 2015’s Pasion de Amor, where she played a young Sari Elizondo (later played by Ellen Adarna).
She also played the role of young Pinang (Erich Gonzales) in Be My Lady; the young Gloria (Sylvia Sanchez) in The Greatest Love; the young Bianca (Kim Chiu) in Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin; and, the young Rhian (Angel Locsin) in The General’s Daughter.
She landed her breakout role in 2018 with Kadenang Ginto which launched her to fame and changed the trajectory of her career forever.
In Kadenang Ginto, Francine plays the role of Cassie Mondragon, the kind-hearted daughter of Romina Andrada played by Beauty Gonzalez.
She became one of Philippine television’s newest teen drama queens along with Andrea Brilliantes, showing her acting chops that captured viewers’ hearts with every new episode that aired.
Francine’s success in Kadenang Ginto also led to the founding of the phenomenal group called the Gold Squad, a teenage quartet composed of Francine and her co-stars in the show Andrea, Seth Fedelin and Kyle Echarri.
Together, they also all starred in the 2021 drama series Huwag Kang Mangamba where she played the role of Joy Cordero, a rebellious teen.
Francine, the third child in a family of six siblings, pursued showbiz to help her family while hopefully ensuring a good future for herself. She talked about the challenges that come with being in the industry and how difficult it can be to spot people’s intentions which aren’t always well-meaning.
This year, Francine is set to star in a new limited series called Bola Bola, with acclaimed director JP Habac at the helm.
Bola Bola, an iWantTFC original, is a coming-of-age story that deals with body positivity, cooking, and love. The series marks Francine’s first lead role without her Gold Squad co-actors.
Francine will play Thea, a 220-pound girl who loves to cook, especially for her brother’s friend, whom she has feelings for.
It’s a role that Francine instantly found a connection with and Bola-Bola is just the start of many more projects that are sure to come her way soon.
