BDO Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank, welcomed 2025 by turning over four newly rehabilitated rural health units (RHUs) aimed at benefiting over 96,000 Filipinos in several areas of Luzon and the Visayas.
As part of its ongoing efforts to support the country’s capacity to provide basic healthcare services at the grassroots level, BDO Foundation focused on improving two health facilities in Capiz: Ivisan Rural Health Unit and Birthing Facility, and Sapian Rural Health Unit and Birthing Clinic. The foundation also rehabilitated Peñarrubia Rural Health Unit in Abra and Pilar Rural Health Unit in Bohol. To date, BDO Foundation has rehabilitated a total of 195 RHUs nationwide.

Working closely with local government units and municipal health officers, BDO Foundation enhanced both the interiors and exteriors of these facilities, creating spaces that are more conducive to healing and wellness. In some RHUs, the foundation also added dedicated areas for senior citizens, children, and breastfeeding mothers to ensure comfort for all visitors during routine check-ups.
BDO Foundation recognizes the importance of RHUs in strengthening primary healthcare delivery. These facilities are essential for providing community members with basic health checks, regular immunizations, and preventive care.
“We want primary healthcare to be accessible and comfortable for Filipinos. Our hope is that our contributions empower health workers to deliver better services and provide patients with improved care,” said Mario Deriquito, president of BDO Foundation.
The rehabilitation of rural health units is an ongoing initiative for BDO Foundation, with continued support from BDO Unibank and BDO Network Bank branch officers who help identify RHUs in need of assistance.
