Converge expands stronghold in Luzon, sets sights on Visayas and Mindanao

Converge ICT continues to see rapid growth in Luzon and is now turning its focus to underserved and unserved communities in the Visayas and Mindanao. John Paul Aguilar, Senior Vice President and Business Unit Head for National Consumer Business, shared this during the KapiHann media forum hosted by the Pampanga Press Club and Hann Resorts at Swissôtel Clark.

Aguilar reported that Converge closed 2024 with 2.5 million household subscribers using its pure-fiber network. The company is projecting an additional 1 million subscribers in 2025, driven by its planned expansion in southern regions.

“Converge is currently strong in Luzon, but our push this year is to complete the digital picture across the country by reaching out to households in the Visayas and Mindanao,” Aguilar said. “Digitalization is not just about access, but also about empowering families to improve their quality of life.”

The Visayas and Mindanao account for 43% of the country’s estimated 24 million households, representing a massive opportunity for growth. Aguilar said Converge currently serves about 1 in 10 Filipino households and sees great potential to expand that ratio, especially with the majority of internet subscribers still not on fiber.

He noted the company’s significant progress since offering 20 Mbps in 2016, now delivering average speeds of 300 Mbps — a 15-fold increase.

From its humble beginnings as a video tape rental business in the 1980s and a cable TV provider in Angeles City, Converge has transformed into one of the country’s top broadband providers, now offering fiber-powered internet, IPTV, and video-on-demand services.
