DPWH unveils P69.3-M eco-tourism project in Aurora

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has officially launched the P69.3-million Villa Aurora Eco-Tourism Project, marking a significant move towards promoting sustainable tourism in Barangay Villa, Maria Aurora, Aurora.

Construction on the eco-friendly development began in 2023, with the creation of 11 villas, a function hall, a chapel, a tribal hall, and a tent area with slab flooring for events. These facilities are designed to enhance the region’s appeal as an eco-tourism destination.

DPWH Aurora District Engineer Roderick Andal emphasized the project’s role in unlocking the tourism potential of Barangay Villa, which had previously faced challenges due to limited infrastructure. He noted that the region is now positioned to thrive as a key eco-tourism hub.

“This development will offer a sustainable, eco-friendly environment that meets the growing demand for responsible tourism. It will attract both local and international visitors who seek nature-based experiences. With these new facilities, the area now boasts improved accommodations and amenities to better serve tourists,” said Andal.

Assistant District Engineer Benelito Pascua highlighted additional project features, including essential utilities like an elevated water tank, a generator room, and waste management systems such as Material Recovery Facility recycle bins. The project also includes common toilets, parking spaces, foot bridges, and an access road leading to Ubot Falls, all designed to improve accessibility and visitor convenience.

The site is equipped with pathways, trails, a hanging bridge, and an off-road 4×4 trail, providing ample opportunities for outdoor and adventure activities.

In addition to enhancing the visitor experience, the eco-tourism project is expected to stimulate the local economy by creating jobs and boosting revenue. It aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable tourism that balances economic growth with environmental conservation. (PIA Region 3-Aurora)
