THE elections are just 3 weeks away. Campaigns are heating up. Interesting to watch are the 3 main cities of Pampanga.
In Angeles City, Congressman Carmelo โJonโ Lazatin is leading former PNP head Gen. Oscar Albayalde by a mile. Others are saying that the former general will give the sitting congressman โa run for his moneyโ as he might get the INC votes, they say. But Cong Jonโs lead is very insurmountable.
In Mabalacat City, incumbent mayor Cris Garbo has the edge over Vice Mayor Geld Aquino. But who knows, Tatayโs magic may work on the side of VM Geld. It can go either way.
In the City of San Fernando, the lead between incumbent Vilma Caluag and former Board Member Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab is still a toss-up. The lead changes every time, just like basketball, and itโs that close.
Motoristsโ headache: 12 pts
What can LGUs, traffic enforcers and LTO personnel do to implement Administrative Order No. 15 from the Land Transportation Office and House Bill No. 1419 that prohibits motorcycles from lane splitting along public roads and highways in the Philippines? Are they really inutile in its implementation?
With so many motorcycles moving in and around every day, especially during traffic jams, will these drivers be apprehended? With the elections just around the corner, even before, the laws have just been suggestions and not to be implemented. Theyโre not ONLY traffic hazards but a big danger to the motoring public. They just cut your path in all directions as they think they own the whole road.
Few months ago, I had an accident with a โkolong-kolongโ (motorcycle with sidecar). Driver just swerved to the right, without even checking all sides, hitting my driver side door. Lo and behold, the driver didnโt have a driverโs license and insurance. As a matter of fact, he is one of our IP brothers. Make the long story short, had to pay for the damage this โunlicensedโ driver did to the vehicle.
This driver is just one of the hundreds of thousands driving their motor vehicles without any proper licensing and insurance. Someone said that itโs in our system. For me thatโs not the answer and unacceptable. Local authorities and agencies should wake up and do their job. Itโs not right when you let them go whenever they get involved in any accidents because they cannot afford to pay for the damage they incurred. This system has gotta stop.
