About 150 cyclists from Angeles City showed up to participate in today’s Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Bikefest 2024: A Tribute to Siklistang Angeleňo held in Barangay Sto. Cristo.
Races in the Senior / Master Male for cyclists 50 years old and above, Elite Open, MTB (Male & Female), Road Bike (Male and Female) and Fixed Bike categories were held with the champions, second and third places won Php3,000, Php2,000 and Php1,000, respectively.
Angeles City Sports Office (ACSO) Officer-in-Charge Trisha Maeve B. Mendiola said the cycling event is part of the programs of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr.’s pushing to promote a healthy and fit lifestyle among Angeleños.
Mendiola said more than just a race, she pointed out that the tournament was conceptualized to pay tribute to the legendary cyclists of Angeles City.
She said Certificate of Recognition will be given to 11 professional and six amateur Angeleños cyclists.
Awarded were pro cyclists Nicanor Nicdao, Silbestre and Eduardo Compio, Oscar Modesto, Roel Tan, Julie Carbungco, Rogelio De Guzman, Jerry Lumba, Jheffson Sotto, Paulino Punzalan and Jayson Cabrera who at one time or another joined professional cycling tournaments such as the Marlboro Tour.
Amateur cyclists who were cited are Ramon Dinio, Edilberto Catli, Diosdado Paras, Ramon S. Dizon, Jerry Villanueva and Reynaldo Pingul.
The Bikefest was headed by Race Director Fer Caparas with the support of the City Government, personnel from the ACSO, the Angeles City Traffic Development Office (ACTDO) personnel who served as marshals and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), among others.
