NHCP MUSEO NI JOSE RIZAL HOSTS SPECIAL ART WORKSHOP, TELESFORO SUCGANG’S 170TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

As part of the 128th commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s martyrdom and in celebration of the upcoming 170th birth anniversary of artist Telesforo Sucgang, the NHCP Museo ni Jose Rizal Fort Santiago will host “Hagod Rizal,” a portraiture workshop, on December 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

The event is a collaboration between the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the Telesforo Alayon Sucgang Legacy Initiative Team, Quezon’s Artistry and Creativity, Urban Sketchers Manila, and the NHCP Museum of Philippine Maritime History.

Event Highlights:
Artist Talk and Walk-Through
Guest artists from Quezon’s Artistry and Creativity will lead discussions and a walk-through of their exhibit, focusing on the theme “Rizal’s Legacy Towards Unity, Hope, and Change.”

Plein Air Sketching
A commemorative “Jose & Telesforo Sketchwalk” by Urban Sketchers Manila will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., bringing together artists to depict scenes inspired by Rizal and Sucgang.

The exhibit aims to shed light on Telesforo Sucgang’s artistic contributions, particularly his unembellished representation of Rizal, and his enduring influence on works that honor the national hero.

This year’s theme, “Rizal: Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Buhay at Aral Aming Nilalandas,” underscores the relevance of Rizal’s teachings in shaping a hopeful and united nation.

The NHCP continues to lead efforts in preserving and promoting Philippine history through education, conservation, and commemorative programs, ensuring the legacy of the country’s heroes endures for future generations.
