PPC’s 2nd Golf Tournament to support Journalism Institute

To support the establishment of the Pampanga Press Club (PPC) Journalism Institute, the PPC will host its 2nd Invitational Golf Tournament on March 28, 2025, at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao.

Various private companies, government organizations, public officials, and individuals have committed to supporting the tournament, recognizing the significance of the 75-year-old club’s project.

PPC is committed to creating the Journalism Institute to provide quality education to young individuals interested in journalism. The Institute aims to offer training by seasoned, award-winning journalists to teach fair, accurate, and truthful reporting, especially in an age dominated by artificial intelligence and an overstated social media culture.

PPC chair Tonette Orejas emphasized the need for broad community support to establish the institute.

“The challenges and growth of Pampanga require generations of responsible news media practitioners,” Orejas said.

The golf tournament is led by The Voice Newsweekly publisher and editor, and two-time former PPC president Lincoln Baluyut.

The tournament’s tee-off ceremony will be led by key officials, including Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) Director Rolen Paulino, and Customs Clark Officer Jairus Reyes.

The event has garnered support from a wide range of sponsors, including Gov. Dennis Pineda, Mr. William Gatchalian, former Tarlac Governor and Congressman Vic Yap, Converge ICT Solutions, Beautéderm, Vice Gov. Lilia Pineda, JDN Realty, GCash, NLEX Corporation, and many more. Other sponsors include key figures such as Department of Labor and Employment Sec. Bienvenido Laguesma, Bank of the Philippine Islands, BCDA, Department of Public Works and Highways Region 3, StB Giga Factory, SM Investments, EDDMARI Construction and Trading, and several mayors and other public officials from across Pampanga.

The event’s success will play a key role in supporting the PPC’s mission to build the Journalism Institute, which will offer aspiring journalists the tools to excel in the field, ensuring a future of fair, credible, and impactful journalism in the region.
