The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reported that some senatorial candidates have violated rules regarding campaign posters, just a day after the official start of the May 2025 election campaign period.
In an interview on Wednesday, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia stated that campaign material violations have been observed across all regions.
“Five senatorial candidates have consistently violated campaign poster regulations, including the size requirements, improper posting locations, and the use of non-environmentally friendly materials,” Garcia said.
He added that the candidates will be issued notices to remove the non-compliant posters and tarpaulins.
“We will issue a notice to remove the materials first. If they fail to comply, we will forward recommendations for election offenses, and disqualification cases will be filed. Show-cause orders will be issued,” Garcia explained.
Candidates will have three days to remove the illegal posters and tarpaulins.
“There’s no need to respond immediately. They can simply remove the materials first, then respond afterward,” he clarified.
However, Garcia refrained from naming the candidates involved.
“We don’t want to be accused of partiality. We are aware of who is violating in each region, and we will monitor the situation daily,” he said.
According to Comelec Resolution 11086, lawful election propaganda includes printed materials like pamphlets and posters made of recyclable materials, with size restrictions such as 2 feet by 3 feet for posters and 3 feet by 8 feet for streamers.
