Sun Life’s Macaulay Club donates PHP 4.5 Million to Illuminate Last Mile Schools in Sarangani

Last Mile Schools in Sarangani are set to benefit from brighter days ahead, thanks to a generous PHP 4.5 million donation from the Macaulay Club, a group of Sun Life’s top-performing financial advisors. In collaboration with the Solar Village Foundation, the donation will help address the educational challenges posed by limited access to electricity.

During a ceremony organized by the Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Sun Life Foundation), the Macaulay Club handed over the grant, which will fund the installation of solar-powered lighting, printing systems, and provide solar lanterns to teachers across 13 remote schools. These Last Mile Schools, located in isolated areas, often struggle with insufficient resources such as electricity, educational materials, makeshift classrooms, and limited staffing. Many also serve marginalized communities, including indigenous peoples.

The project aims to enhance the learning environment for students and improve the safety and comfort of teachers, who endure long and perilous walks over difficult terrain, often in the dark, to reach their schools and residences.

The event was attended by key figures including Sun Life Philippines CEO & Country Head and Sun Life Foundation Chairman Benedict Sison, Sun Life Foundation President Alex Narciso, Sun Life Philippines Chief Distribution Officer Al Quitangon, Macaulay Club President Owdylyn Lee, Solar Village Foundation Chairman Jimmy Ayala, and Solar Village Foundation Trustee Carla Villacorta.

“This donation from the Macaulay Club is a testament to how our top financial advisors give back, contributing to a brighter future for Filipinos,” said Al Quitangon, Sun Life Philippines Chief Distribution Officer. “With nearly 130 years of history in the Philippines, Sun Life is deeply committed to supporting initiatives that improve lives.”

Kristine Millete, Executive Director of the Sun Life Foundation, expressed her excitement for the project, stating, “We believe that brighter schools lead to brighter futures, and we are proud to support this initiative. We extend our gratitude to the Macaulay Club and Solar Village Foundation for their efforts to uplift the children and teachers in Sarangani.”

The Sun Life Foundation, as the philanthropic arm of Sun Life Philippines, remains dedicated to supporting education across the country, helping foster better learning opportunities for Filipino children.
