Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. has highlighted the success of the city’s intensified waste segregation initiative, particularly in Barangay Mining and Tabun, according to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
Both barangays, led by Punong Barangays Lester Hernandez of Mining and Angel Cordero of Tabun, have been pivotal in ensuring the program’s smooth implementation within their communities.

Mayor Lazatin also praised CENRO, under the leadership of Jenifer Castro, for its effective execution of the waste segregation campaign, especially in educating residents and monitoring compliance. CENRO field teams distributed segregation guidelines and collection schedules door-to-door in the barangays. Barangay Mining received its materials on January 30, with waste collection monitoring starting February 13.
CENRO’s report noted significant improvements in compliance, with barangay collection teams now properly separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.
Castro emphasized the importance of involving the community in the campaign’s success. “This initiative goes beyond compliance; it fosters long-term environmental responsibility,” she said.
The waste segregation program is part of the city’s broader solid waste management strategy, aligned with Republic Act 9003 and Angeles City’s Amended Environmental Code.
With Barangay Mining and Tabun leading the way, the city aims to extend the program to all 33 barangays, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and best waste management practices. Recently, the city also launched its waste segregation program in Barangay Capaya and opened a transfer station, further strengthening its waste management infrastructure.
