Last February 4 at around 3:00 PM, the CIDG Nueva Ecija Provincial Field Unit executed a search warrant in Brgy. Melojavilla, Cabanatuan City, targeting violations of the Consumer Act of the Philippines (RA 7394)—specifically Article 10 (Injurious, Dangerous and Unsafe Products), Article 18 (Prohibited Acts), and Article 77 (Minimum Labeling Requirements for Consumer Products).
The operation led to the arrest of two male suspects, identified only as “Cholo” and “Oscar”, both residents of Cabanatuan City, and the confiscation of alleged substandard consumer products valued at Php 800,000. Confiscated items included 50 LED multifunctional lithium lamp tubes and 80 assorted audio speakers that lacked the minimum labeling requirements set by the Department of Trade and Industry–Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI–BPS).
CIDG Director PMGen Robert AA Morico II emphasized that protecting consumer interests and welfare is a top priority, noting that operations like these are part of the PNP’s commitment to public safety under the guidance of PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr.
The CIDG lauded PCOL Grant A. Gollod, Regional Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 3, and PLTCOL Neilmar T. Retana, Provincial Officer of CIDG Nueva Ecija, for the successful operation, which safeguards the public from potential hazards posed by substandard products.
The CIDG reiterated its commitment to upholding the law, fighting criminality, and encouraging the public to report illegal activities in their communities.
