Cebu Pacific, DLSU partner to train future aviation engineers

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ leading carrier, has signed a five-year partnership with De La Salle University (DLSU) – Manila to mentor the next generation of Filipino aviation engineers through its Design Engineering Program.

Under the Memorandum of Agreement, select DLSU engineering students will work with CEB’s technical experts on real-world projects such as smart aircraft maintenance systems and sustainable mobility solutions, which will also serve as their thesis or capstone requirements.

“This partnership invests in more than projects—it invests in people. By guiding young engineers to innovate with purpose, we are building the future of Philippine aviation together,” said Shevantha Weerasekera, CEB Vice President for Engineering and Fleet Management.

For its pilot run this year, 25 DLSU students have been chosen for the program—the airline’s first formal collaboration with a university to integrate practical airline industry experience into higher education. Cebu Pacific said it aims to expand the program to more schools in the future as part of its long-term investment in Philippine aviation.

This initiative follows the launch of CEB’s OFW Balikbayan Program in May 2025, which encourages Filipino engineers abroad to return and share their expertise with the local aviation sector.
