City Savings Bank backs DepEd’s Digitalization Efforts

City Savings Bank (CitySavings), the thrift banking arm of Union Bank of the Philippines, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting teachers and students through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education (DepEd) on February 17, 2025. This partnership strengthens their ongoing collaboration and aligns with DepEd’s 5-Point Agenda, addressing key challenges in the education sector.

During the MOA signing, CitySavings Chairperson Ana Aboitiz-Delgado shared the bank’s history, noting that it was founded with the simple vision of serving people of moderate means. She emphasized that CitySavings, along with the entire Aboitiz Group, is deeply committed to supporting DepEd’s mission to improve the quality of education in the Philippines.

CitySavings President and CEO Manuel Santiago, Jr. highlighted the bank’s dedication to educators, stating, “Since 2008, we have partnered with DepEd to provide relevant, accessible, and sustainable corporate social responsibility programs.”

As part of the agreement, CitySavings will donate laptops to select DepEd divisions across the country to advance digitalization efforts and improve learning outcomes. This initiative supports DepEd’s drive to prepare schools and students for future assessments.

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara expressed his appreciation for CitySavings’ longstanding support, not just in banking, but also in nation-building. He praised the bank’s efforts in promoting computerization programs and elevating communities through financial inclusion. “Through your financial literacy programs, affordable loans, and support during National Teachers’ Month, we’ve felt your commitment to education that goes beyond profit,” Angara said.

This partnership underscores CitySavings’ continued role in empowering the nation’s educators and learners.
