The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has reminded all covered officials and employees that the use of government-owned vehicles on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays is strictly prohibited, except when directly related to the performance of official duties.

The directive is in accordance with DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2026-011, which took effect on February 6, 2026.

The policy covers all elected and appointed local officials, as well as personnel from the DILG Central Office, Regional and Field Offices, and DILG attached agencies. The DILG emphasized that the use of government vehicles for personal activities and private errands is not allowed.

Officials warned that any violation of the directive may lead to administrative and/or criminal liability. Existing government policies have long limited the use of official vehicles strictly to government business, with unauthorized use—especially during weekends and holidays—considered a violation unless properly authorized.

The public and concerned personnel may read the full memorandum circular through the official DILG release.
