Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon convened a consultative meeting with road safety advocates on May 21 to discuss stronger measures for protecting commuters and road users across the country.

The initiative comes in response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize public safety and convenience, following a series of recent road crash incidents that highlighted the need for urgent policy reforms.

The discussions focused on several key proposals aimed at tightening safety regulations and promoting driver accountability. Among the measures raised were:

  • Mandatory drug testing for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers
  • Stricter monitoring of driver’s license applications and renewals
  • Harsher penalties for traffic violations
  • Implementation of the No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP)

Secretary Dizon emphasized the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in crafting effective road safety solutions. He said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is committed to working closely with stakeholders to strengthen enforcement and ensure safer roads for all Filipinos.
