The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has suspended for 90 days the driverโ€™s license of a vehicle owner involved in a viral video showing a child driving an MG sedan while sitting on an adultโ€™s lap.

The decision, announced Monday, comes in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.โ€™s directive to strengthen road discipline and ensure public safety.

The vehicleโ€™s registered owner, Gladys Gonzales, has been ordered to appear before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Central Office in Quezon City to explain why she should not face charges. Gonzales may be held liable for reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, allowing a child to sit in the front seat, and permitting an improper person to operate a vehicle.

The DOTr also placed the vehicle, identified by conduction sticker RP915A, under alarm pending further investigation due to the seriousness of the violations.

The incident, which occurred in Butuan City, went viral after being posted on Threads last Saturday, drawing public concern after both the adult and the child were seen driving without seatbelts.
