The Governments of Israel and the Philippines officially launched the ISHA Womenโ€™s Health Initiative at the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) in Pasig City, marking a milestone in bilateral cooperation and womenโ€™s health services.

The ISHA Project, named after the Hebrew word isha (ืึดืฉึธึผืื”) meaning โ€œwoman, introduces a One-Stop-Shop Womenโ€™s Health and Wellness Center aimed at providing comprehensive healthcare for women across all stages of life. The center will offer services ranging from reproductive and maternal health to menopause management and mental wellness. It will also include a unit dedicated to supporting women and children affected by gender-based violence, offering medical, psychological, and forensic services in a safe environment.

The initiative is the result of a multi-agency partnership between the Embassy of Israel in Manila, MASHAVโ€”Israelโ€™s Agency for International Development Cooperation, the Philippine Department of Health (DOH), Rizal Medical Center, and the Makati Medical Center Foundation (MMCF).

โ€œThis initiative is not just about healthcareโ€”itโ€™s about dignity, access, and opportunity for every Filipina,โ€ said Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss, who emphasized the project as a testament to the strong ties between Israel and the Philippines.

A Joint Communique formalizing the partnership was signed during the launch event by Ambassador Fluss, Deputy Head of MASHAV Ambassador Irit Savion, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, and RMC Chief Dr. Maria Encarnita L. Lumague.

Visiting Israeli OB/GYN specialists Dr. Ronit Almog and Dr. Ran Nagar from Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) are leading the training and technical guidance for the new center. Their involvement underscores Israelโ€™s commitment to sharing medical expertise and best practices with Philippine institutions.

โ€œThis project embraces a comprehensive, compassionate, and life-course approach to womenโ€™s healthcare,โ€ Dr. Lumague said, noting its significance as the first of its kind in RMCโ€™s 84-year history.

Health Secretary Herbosa expressed appreciation for Israelโ€™s support: โ€œThis center represents a convergence of innovation, compassion, and Israeli best practices. We are deeply grateful for this contribution to our healthcare system.โ€

Ambassador Savion echoed the long-standing partnership between the two nations: โ€œMASHAV was established the same year as Israelโ€™s first embassy in Manila. This initiative is a reflection of our enduring commitment to the Filipino people.โ€

The ISHA Womenโ€™s Health Center is expected to serve as a model for future collaborative health initiatives and stands as a symbol of shared values and commitment to gender equality, public health, and international cooperation.
