Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed on March 28 the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) to investigate the overflowing creek in Barangay Balibago, which has become clogged with garbage. This, following the creek overflow on March 27, 2025, due to heavy rains, causing floodwaters mixed with trash to spread across the area.
In response to the issue, Mayor Lazatin immediately ordered a cleanup operation to be led by CENRO, the Environmental Management System (EMS), and Barangay Balibago officials, spearheaded by Punong Barangay Joseph ‘PG’ Ponce. The cleanup will take place on March 29, 2025, at 7:00 AM.
“This incident underscores the urgent need to prevent the accumulation of waste and maintain ongoing cleanup efforts to protect our environment,” said Mayor Lazatin.
Following an inspection conducted earlier today, CENRO Head Jennifer Castro confirmed that significant amounts of waste had accumulated in various parts of Balibago, particularly in the creek. “This is a recurring issue that requires continuous monitoring and cooperation from the community,” Castro emphasized.
The city government is calling on residents to actively participate in the cleanup and to practice responsible waste disposal to help keep waterways clear and avoid future flooding.
This initiative is part of the broader environmental conservation efforts under Mayor Lazatin’s administration, which includes the reforestation of the Angeles City Watershed in Barangay Sapangbato, waste segregation programs in city hall offices, schools, and barangays, and the “Walang Plastikan, Plastik Palit Bigas” plastic-to-rice exchange program. The city has also opened a waste transfer station and wastewater facility and is strictly enforcing the “No Segregation, No Collection” policy.
