PBBM inaugurates P20.94-B, 500kV Bataan transmission line

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inaugurated the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose 500 kilovolts transmission line at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) Hermosa Substation in Bataan.

This P20.94-billion Energy Project of National Significance by the NGCP features 395 transmission towers, 275.6 circuit kilometers of overhead lines, two new substations, and a total substation capacity of 2,000 megavolt-amperes.

In his message, Marcos emphasized that this new transmission line will serve as a vital corridor for power generation projects in Bataan and Zambales, strengthening power transmission services not only in the region but extending all the way to Metro Manila.

“This development involves more than 275 circuit kilometers of overhead lines supported by nearly almost 400 towers and two new substations, with a total line transmission capacity of 8,000 megawatts (MW),” he noted.

The President commended the collaborative efforts behind the project, noting that it demonstrated the transformative power of public and private sector cooperation in achieving a stable, reliable, and resilient power supply for the country.

“So, I direct the Department of Energy and the NGCP to complete the almost 70 transmission projects on time as indicated in our Transmission Development Plan, particularly the Batangas-Mindoro Interconnection Project and the Northern Luzon 230-kiloVolt Loop,” he added.

Meanwhile, NGCP President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Almeda highlighted the project’s role in securing and stabilizing power transmission services in Luzon.

“More than just an infrastructure endeavor, the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose Transmission Line project is critical in ensuring the reliability and sustainability of our power grid,” he stated.

Almeda underscored that this backbone project provides a new high voltage link capable of transmitting a total of 8,000MW of power from power plants in Bataan and in Zambales.

“Mr. President, the line is ready to serve and further improve the power transmission service to 59 million households and other power consumers in Luzon,” he added.

He praised the teamwork and commitment of NGCP’s workforce and acknowledged President Marcos’ role in the project’s success, saying, “Your excellency, your commitment to improving our nation’s infrastructure has been a driving force behind this success.”

Meanwhile, NGCP Chief Technical Officer Rico Vega also lauded the collaborative effort that brought the project to fruition.

“This remarkable milestone represents the combined efforts of NGCP, the steadfast support of our local and national government, and the contribution of various stakeholders,” Vega said.

He also mentioned that under the leadership of President Marcos, the corporation is inspired to deliver infrastructure projects that bring tangible benefits to the Filipino people.

With the successful completion and energization of the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose 500kV Transmission Line, the project stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and commitment in achieving national development goals.

As the nation celebrates this milestone, the focus remains on ensuring a dependable and adequate energy supply, fostering sustainable development, and building a greener future for the Philippines. (PIA Region 3-Bataan)
