The Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine (PSSM) will launch the country’s first Drowsy Driving Prevention Campaign through a Sleep Expo on November 15, 2025, at the 3rd Floor of Tower 1, Clark Cityfront Mall, Angeles City, Pampanga.
The campaign, dubbed “TABI MUNA!” (meaning “pull over”), aims to raise public awareness on the dangers of driving while fatigued. Modeled after the U.S. National Sleep Foundation’s Drowsy Driving Prevention campaign, it urges motorists to get sufficient rest before driving and to recognize signs of sleepiness that could lead to accidents comparable to drunk or distracted driving.
“Our goal is to promote the campaign to a wider public—doctors, healthcare professionals, and business people who can champion sleep health awareness and safe behavior,” said PSSM President Dr. Jimmy Chang.
Founded in 2002, PSSM is a non-governmental organization advocating sleep health and education in the Philippines. The Sleep Expo will also showcase the latest products and innovations in sleep and bedding technologies, relevant to both consumers and healthcare professionals.
Following the expo, PSSM will hold its first Regional Caravan on November 16, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Park Inn by Radisson Clark. The event will gather partners and stakeholders to strengthen sleep services in Central Luzon through expert talks and networking sessions.
While local data on drowsy driving remains limited, international reports estimate that up to 30% of road accidents are caused by driver fatigue. The Philippines currently ranks first in Southeast Asia and fourth globally among the most sleep-deprived nations—underscoring the urgency of the campaign.
The event is held in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and major sponsors including Uratex Philippines, Philips Respironics, and Petron Corporation, among others.
“The Sleep Expo and Regional Caravan are part of our continuing mission to build a healthier and more productive Filipino community,” Dr. Chang added.
The Sleep Expo is open to the public during mall hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a special program featuring government officials at 11 a.m. The morning session of the Regional Caravan (7 a.m.–12 nn) is open to all, while the afternoon session (1 p.m.–5 p.m.) is reserved for healthcare professionals.
